New Android Oreo Beta Rolling Out to the Exynos Galaxy S8 Brings Bug Fixes and January Security Patch

In November, Samsung launched the Android Oreo beta program for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, which we reviewed in detail. Since then, the beta program’s been expanded to more countries and updated with the December 2017 Android security patch.

A week ago, a notice in the Samsung Experience application indicated that the Android 8.0 Oreo beta would end on January 15. Now, Samsung’s started rolling out a beta build that might be the last, considering the rumored end date’s only a few days away.

SamMobile received the update on an Indian, Exynos-based variant of the Galaxy S8, but the publication said that it should be rolling out in other markets where the beta’s officially supported.

The beta for the Exynos Galaxy S8 bumps the version number to ZRA5, and has a download size of 593MB. It contains the January 1, 2018 security patch and other fixes, including for bugs that caused the phone to freeze, crash, and rapidly lose battery power.

In order to install the latest beta, head to Settings > Software on your smartphone and tap the Download updates manually button. Samsung’s expected to start rolling out the stable Oreo update for the devices in the coming weeks, but as of publication time, the company hasn’t announced the rollout’s start date.
